The problem
Birthday gifts for kids end up in a drawer. Parents wanted a moment, not an object — and anything requiring an app download or setup on the day would never get used.
What we built
A consumer product where a parent adds a child's name, age and a few details in under two minutes and a real phone call rings at the chosen moment. AI voice over Twilio with ElevenLabs speech and a Node.js orchestration layer, sold as a one-time purchase with no subscription, checkout and instant confirmation, in English and Romanian.
Decisions that mattered
A real phone call, no app
An in-app experience would have been easier to control. A plain phone call meant scheduling and telephony reliability became our problem, and it removed every reason for a grandparent not to buy.
One-time price over a subscription
Subscriptions model better on a spreadsheet. Birthdays are once a year, so the honest purchase is a single call — and it removed the churn conversation entirely.
